Between the two of us – my fiance and I have lost quite a few people close to us. Both my parents passed away by the time I was 18. His best friend passed away 2 years ago – and we’ve both lost all our grandparents as well.

I’d like to find a way to honor them – Especially my parents and his best friend – but I’m not sure what to do, or how to do it. A slide show is too funeralish and in your face. I don’t want to depress myself and all my guests. But I’m not sure either of us will have it in us to get up there and make some sort of toast or mention of them and hold it all together. I’d like something that makes it obvious we’re honoring them – but not something drawn out or depressing, I guess.

Also – is it okay to ask someone who isn’t family, to give me away in place of my Dad? Or should it be a family member? I am not really close with any of my uncles, but I do have two men in my life who are very much like fathers to me.

Is there a way I can walk down the isle without being given away?? I’ve never seen it done – could my fiance and I walk in after the groomsmen and bridesmaids, together?

Question #1: My cousin recently got engaged. I’m helping her plan her wedding and she asked me what I thought would be some really cool/useful gifts for her bridesmaids. Unfortunately, I have no idea. Any ideas?

Question #2: Her parents are divorced and don’t get along at all. My cousin’s dad is remarried with two children and she’s had a rough past with her stepmom. They used to fight a lot and they’ve only recently started to be polite/nice to each other. My cousin’s mom has a hard time being polite when she’s speaking to the dad and isn’t shy about speaking her mind about what she thinks of some of his decisions. Her mom and stepmom do not like each other even a little bit so we’re having trouble coming up with ideas on how to handle this situation. Lizzi (my cousin) doesn’t want to offend her dad and stepmom by not including them in the wedding planning but also doesn’t want to make her mom mad by having all of them at the same ‘events’ (i.e., dress shopping and fittings, the bridal shower, the favor-making parties, the shopping for other various things).

Any advice on anything she could do to keep the peace would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I posted this question a few hours ago and got a few rude responses =/ so I’m going to try this again adding more detail. Please read the ENTIRE message BEFORE answering. Thanks!

My Fiance’ and I are trying to decide on a bridal party dance song and the last dance song. We want to use either "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts OR "Making Memories Of Us" by Keith Urban. Which ever song we don’t use for the bridal party dance we are going to use for the last dance and vice versa….I hope that makes sense. But we can’t figure out which song would make a better bridal party dance and which song would make a better last dance. Any suggestions? We know for sure those are the 2 songs we want, so changing them is NOT an option, these are the 2 songs we like and that’s how it’s going to be.

On my previous response, I got a few people that said it’s stupid to have a bridal party dance because they wouldn’t want their man/woman to be touched by another man/woman. First of all, ALL our bridesmaids/groomsmen are married and we are pairing them together. For example: My bridesmaid Tina will be paired with groomsmen Joe and they are both married. So, the bridal party dance, in my opinion, shouldn’t be odd when all the couples are husband and wife dancing together.

Second, we did check with all our bridesmaids and groomsmen asking them if they would feel comfortable doing a bridal party dance and they responded by saying that they would prefer to have one because it’s not that often that they get to dance together.

So, back to my question. Which song would be better for a bridal party dance and which would be good for the last dance?

There is no need to be rude either…I’m just asking a simple question…thanks =)

This game is played by dividing the guests into teams, giving each team a few rolls of toilet paper, and asking them to to use it to design a "wedding gown." Then, a winning gown is chosen. I am throwing a shower for my friend. Her grandmother, mother, and a few aunts will be there, in addition to the other bridesmaids and young (20-something) friends. Do you think that this game is appropriate? Have you actually ever played it? If so, was it fun? Instead of this game, I am considering giving each guest a few pieces of tissue paper to design a veil. Which game sounds better? Or are they both lame?
