I found a really pretty older wedding dress at a Goodwill store, and it’s only , however, it’s old-fashioned and of course, out of style for today’s fashion. Even if a dress is out of style, is it okay to wear?

HELP ME!! My Aunt and my Grandmother are trying to take over my wedding!

To start things off, my Aunt weaseled her way into dress shopping with my mom and I. Then, she got bored and sick of shopping so she just went ahead and paid for the last dress that I was wearing and the headpiece! Luckily, it was THE dress. The headpiece I am not so sure about. But silly me, I thought by her paying for it, it was a gift (considering it was 0!). About 4 days later, she reposessed my dress because I hadn’t paid her back for it yet! [I did finally get my wedding dress back.]

Also, she went behind my back and set up a dinner party that includes my aunt, her husband, my grandmother and grandfather, my mom, my in-laws, myself and my fiance, to discuss the finances! The wedding is being covered by my mother, my fiance and myself, and no one else! I’m quite concerned about this dinner, because my grandmother has never met my in laws, but she seems to hate them already and is very ignorant and rude whenever she speaks about them. My aunt has met them before, and she has always been rude to them! Also, my brother told me he overheard them saying that they’re going to "turn up the heat" on us, and that we’re "are going to get what’s coming to [us]." We haven’t done anything to them, we just wan’t to plan our own wedding!

Also, my grandmother wants to make my wedding cake, but she’s 75 years old and can’t make them like she used to, and also she refuses to make a layered cake for me, she wants to have the layers on seperate pedistals, which I hate! When I said I would just buy a cake she freaked out and started screaming at me about it!

On top of it all, I get at least 10 or more phone calls PER DAY from these women screaming at me about Invitations, the Cake, Showers, Gift Registries, Engagement Photos, Wedding Photos, etc. Every single detail they are trying to control!

My Aunt wanted to do my Engagement photos and my Wedding photos, which is fine, but my soon to be sister in law and her husband also wanted to do a set of Engagement photos, seeing as how they actually know me and my fiance and our taste as we hang out a lot, and my aunt doesn’t! I barely know her and I try to spend as little time as possible with her due to her overwhelmingly strong personality. My aunt completely freaked out about the second set of engagement photos and yelled at me about it! She said she wouldn’t do the engagement photos if they were going to take any pictures of us, and that if she saw them bring out a camera at my wedding she would put hers away! I don’t understand why nobody but her is allowed to take pictures of my wedding, and I don’t know how to talk to her without her shouting me down. The same goes for my grandmother.

So, PLEASE! How do I politely, or even just effectively tell my overbearing family that this is MY wedding, that I am going to have things MY way, and that they need to mind their own business?
I can’t deal with them anymore. Any suggestions would be helpful at this point!

[Just to clear up the Engagement Photo thing - I wanted to have 2 sets of Engagement photos, so I would have a variety to choose from, dressed up and traditional, and dressed down, young, and fun, in the woods, riding 4 wheelers, going fishing, skeet shooting, by a waterfall.. all sorts of out doorsy stuff that we LOVE... I don't see how that is a problem.. do any of you??]

Also, we are working on a very tight budget, which is why they offered to do it for free.

& I tried explaining to my grandmother that I didnt want her to be too exhausted to enjoy the wedding and she went off her nut anyways. So I’m not exactly sure how to approach that one without her saying she’s dying and the last thing she wanted to do was to make me my wedding cake! (She’s like that.)

I would just like to know what the difference is in having a wedding reception or having a dinner dance instead, i know the dinner dance is cheaper and Im trying to save some money. Can you wear your wedding dress though if you have a dinner dance?

I just started working as a Bridal Consultant for Davids Bridal and I am already LOVING it.

I would love to hear from all of you on how you went about finding your wedding dress.

Please describe how you knew it was the one and what it was you loved about it.

How many did you look at before you found the one? Etc…

This is my husbands brothers wedding, and I am a bridesmaid, but am doing all the work as the Maid of Honor. Even giving the speech as my new sister in-law’s friend is "too shy" and not a good organizer. I have planned the shower and bacheloret trip, picked out the wedding dress and brides maid dresses, organized and ordered most of the wedding stuff, DJ, rentals, Tuxes, favors, invitations, etc. Is it too much to ask that my husband and I get to walk down the ilse and have our pictures together instead of us with strangers? I don’t mean I should be MOH, or stand next to the bride, just be my husbands date? TO BE CLEAR I am notasking tobe the MOH, nor am I making this a big deal, nor am I RUDE. Its a valid question. I am a very loving an accomidating sister in-law and doing ALOT to help because I was asked to. Also this is a family wedding and its not just 30 seconds, its the isle, the table, the pictures, etc. Also our son is ring baurer. Thanks for all the opinions, it is helping.

To those of you who issued advice with you calling me names I really appriciate it, you are right, I dont think I would have said anything, I does bother me a little for a few other reasons, but not enough to upset anyone. I just had a baby as well and am probably a little insecure right now even getting into a dress, and the girl is super hot and well, my hormones are a little sensitive. Thanks for your time

Answer: She told me several times she would have liked me to be MOH but that she felt obligated to ask the other girl, which is really fine with me, I just wanted to be with my husband if that was not too much to ask, thats all. No big deal.

My dress shop measured wrong and my custom ordered wedding dress is the wrong legnth. Now I have about two weeks to find shoes.
I have to have ivory 3 inch heels now. I can’t find them unless they are -0, which is just too much for my budget right now. Plus I don’t want to spend that much, I’ll wear them for an hour on a beach, they will be ruined.
I’ve checked payless, target, walmart, davids bridal, my dress shop, zappos, glassslipper.com, dsw, ebay, and probably a few more that I can’t remember at the moment.
I’ve also googled.
Pretty pretty please, can you help me search? Ideally they would be open toed or sandals, but I’ll get whatever fits the height. (hate pointy shoes though, I’ll go barefoot first!

Yes, it would be better to go barefoot, but when we ordered the gown we were expecting a stateside wedding and measured for heels.

I’m getting married in October and my wedding dress is a halter top. I’m getting married outside and the weather is already started to get nippy and I think I’m going to feel too bare. I want something to cover up with, but I can not stand shawls. I’d like a jacket but don’t know if this will look strange or if I can find something to go with it. Any ideas?

I desperately need some help/advice on what colours to put my bridesmaid’s in. My wedding dress is a light butter yellow & I am finding it rather restricting in the colours to put with it. I originally thought black or a charcoal grey, but now I’m not 100% sure.

i have a huge question about wedding dress shopping… Who do i bring with me? you see, when i was little, i never thought about my wedding. i always had something better to do apparently lol. i’m a floral designer and ive worked with plenty of brides… but now that I’m 22, and have been in a serious relationship for 2 years as of April, i think it’s time for me to start thinking about things that I PERSONALLY would like as a bride. the past few months have been a spiral of wedding thoughts, all going through my head at once. i already know what i would like for a centerpiece, some ideas for colors, and dress styles that i may like. (mind you, i’m not engaged yet… just worried that ive never even thought about my "big day" untill i was older.) but when it comes to that dress, who do i bring with me to find it? ideally, i’d like to bring my mother, stepmother, and future mother-in-law. is it wrong to want to include my stepmother into the mix? there arent any hard feelings between my mother and stepmother, but i feel it will make my mother sad or angry? i dont want to leave my stepmother out, i love her. she’s been there for me and my siblings through everything. (even more than my father! lol.) and my mom does a wonderful job as a single mother, and has done that job greatly for 13 years… i just dont want my mother to be sad, and i dont want to leave my stepmom out. what should i do when the time comes to do it? lol.

my older sister is getting married next month. She has been planning this wedding forever. And now she is finally able to make it come true. She is 29 and is marrying her best friend, Jake. They’ve known each other since the second grade. She was telling me of what she had planned for the wedding. Her bridesmaid dresses are gonna be pale pink and her maid of honor’s dress is gonna be light pink with white glazed over it. Her wedding dress is gonna be from the Vera Wang collection. Her bouquet is made up of pink and white roses. The church pews are gonna be covered with pink and white orchids…She is so lucky, and I couldn’t be any happier. They are having a signing guest thingy kind of book where everyone in the wedding has an option to sign the book or not. I was wondering what I should put? She’s kind of like my second mother and has helped through out everything so any ideas of what to write down? And I also have to make a speech? I don’t really know what to say.. BTW I’m 22
and also..she’s dreamed of marrying Jake since she was in the fifth grade…and now, they’re finally together. I just don’t know what to say in the book and in the speech. Please help me?

I went into my local George store to see if I could find a wedding dress as I am getting married next year. After trying to hunt down the bridal range in a number of stores I was told that they currently don’t stock any bridal products but there will be a range launching in store in 2008. Phew…just in time for my big day. Might just give my local store a ring in the new year!

If I’m having a casual backyard wedding and wearing a pretty simple wedding dress, should I have the bridesmaids wear formal matchy matchy dresses and the groomsmen in tuxes? Or do you think it would look nice if groomsmen wore slacks and a button up shirt and bridesmaids all bought regular dresses along the same color scheme?

I am looking for a wedding dress in plus size that is within the price range of to 5. I am getting married June 10 2006 and am in need of purchasing my dress as soon as possible. If anyone has any idea please let me know. I have taken a look at several different website and every time I find one that I really like and want to purchase right away, it seems to be out of stock.

The person that was suppose to fit my wedding dress went out of business. Does anyone know where a good place around hillard or columbus would be to get my wedding dress fitted. All i need is to take in a some at the top and tighten the strap around my neck. Trying to keep it on the low budget side.

I am putting together an article to send to The Consumerist regarding David’s Bridal. My final straw with this train wreck they call a bridal shop was today when my best friend (the bride), called me crying because the inept "bridal consultant" ordered her wrong wedding dress. The wedding is 1 month from tomorrow. A week and a half ago we also found out that they ordered 2 of the 4 wrong bridesmaid dresses. This has been a terrible experience and I feel like everyone should know how unprofessional they are. When my best friend was crying in the middle of the store, they did nothing to comfort her or reassure her that they would fix their mistakes. She left the store not even knowing if she would have a wedding dress. I spent an hour tonight calling David’s Bridals all over the country to try to locate her dress. Seems like that is something that they should have been doing.
Needless to say, I want everyone to know how awful they are. They ruined my best friends wedding and I will not let them get away with it. If you have any terrible stories, please share. I would love to hear about others experiences. Thanks.
I got into a fight with the "manager" a few days ago right in the middle of the store. She screamed at me. So me being the very opinionated and pissy person that I am, I told my whole story at a much louder decibel. Two women actually put down their dresses and left because of my horror story. I haven’t even gotten in my bridesmaid dress yet and I am terrified that there will be something wrong with it. Under no circumstances will I allow these completely inconsiderate and frankly, stupid, women ruin my best friends wedding. I actually found their corporate number and the presidents name and I have been leaving him voice mails daily. I figure I will just annoy them until my friend is happy.
They did end up finding the dress and it has been ordered but as of right now it will be in 1 week before the wedding. ONE WEEK! I guess it is better than nothing but honestly, could you imagine getting your dress one week before your wedding. She isn’t in a position to just go buy another dress, so we just have to sit, wait and hope that this comes through. In regards to the plus sized comment, I couldn’t agree more. I am a bigger girl. When I went to try on bridesmaid dresses I had the single worst consultant "helping" me. She opened the door to my dressing room 4 times… FOUR times! Each time I was almost completely naked. The b**ch had the audacity to laugh at the fact that she opened the door and a bunch of people saw me. I was so appalled that I just changed and left. Unfortunately, the bride wanted to get the dresses there because she wanted us all to get different dresses but in the same uncommon color and Davids Bridal wasnt the only local option. It all just makes me sick!

Do you think it would be ok if I actually wore a bridesmaids dress as a wedding dress? I bought a dress at Bloomingdales for a hundred bucks but I am still looking. It’ s a beach wedding and the dress is very casual. Kind of bohimian like. I just found a nice dress on davidbridal.com but it’s for the maids. I am not looking to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions? Do you think it would be very noticeable?
