Correct way to wear wedding band and engagement ring?

Asked by: admin Wedding Music

What is the correct way to wear an engagement ring and wedding band? My husband says the engagement ring goes on first than the wedding band. I say it’s the other way around. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The wedding ring goes on first, then the engagement ring. A good practical reason for this (apart from tradition) is if you needed to remove your engagement ring for any reason, such as regulations at work, your wedding ring would not be disturbed.

both on the left hand’s ring finger (second from the pinky, fourth from the thumb) with the wedding band worn first (so it’s closer to the heart) then engagement ring after.

You are correct, the wedding band goes on first, then the engagement ring. The vows you made to your husband should be held closer to your heart… symbolized by the wedding ring.

The wedding ring first…then the engagement ring.
This way, you can leave your wedding band on ALL the time when you’d like to remove your more precious/expensive engagement ring for things like, gardening, showering, swimming etc :-)

Its the engagement ring and then the wedding band, what came first? Plus i think that it just looks funny the other way around.

I thought it was the ring finger on the right hand.
and the wedding ring on the left.

i think your husband is right.. why would you take your engagement ring off, put on your wedding band and then put your eng ring back on? that doesnt make sense. you just keep your ring on and then get your band on your finger and leave it that way.

Engagement ring goes on top of the wedding band. My engagement ring is shaped like a heart and my wedding band has a "v" shape in the middle to fit my engagement ring snugly on top of it.
Engagement comes first then the wedding. That is why the engagement ring must be on top of the wedding band.

wear it the way you want to. who care as long as your happy. the symbolism of the engagement ring was to let on looks in the past no you were to be married. in some countries it was family crest of the future grooms then these were usely arranged marriages.the band replaced the engagement ring and the n in public place the wife would wear the engagement ring to let people know her status by the crest of the ring meaning well to do or well to don’t

There is no correct way at all, it is down to what looks and feels the best, tradition would say the wedding ring first (closest to your heart) and the engagement band on top, but as there are no legal requirements at all about this then no one is gonna arrest you if you want to wear it the other way round.

    your husband is wrong!
but then again people should do whatever they feel comfortable with.
personally i have chosen a white gold band with ten tiny diamonds set in, on either side of a rather large sapphire.. its gorgeous! and also means i dont have the worry of which way round the darn rings go. lol..
