Is it safe to always wear your wedding band?

Asked by: admin Wedding Music

I haven’t taken my wedding band/engagement ring off since the wedding which was about a week ago.

Is it ok to shower with it, and such? I haven’t been using any chemicals while cleaning up our apartment, but if I do I had planned on taking it off only then.

A few family members have said it’s not good for diamonds to be worn while taking a shower though, is this true?

You aren’t going to ruin the ring wearing it all the time – - with the exception of when cleaning because you could have harsh chemicals causing damage to the setting.

However, it is in the best interest of you to not wear it when sleeping or excercising because your hands could swell at those times and wearing any ring is not good if you are swelling.

It is also a good idea to take the ring off when showering and washing your hands because the soap can leave a residue on the ring. It won’t cause damage but you will need to clean it more.

I’ve never heard that: I always keep my engagement ring on! Just took it off when I went into hospital for an operation. x

Water isn’t going to damage them, but I would never wear mine in the shower. If the diamond ever came out of it’s setting, that’s the last you’d ever see of it. Plus you’ll get a build of of soap scum on it eventually.

I wear my ALL the time. And never have any issues, when I have it cleaned they check the diamonds and they are always perfect.

The only times I take it off is if I go dirt bike riding(hurts my finger when gripping the handle bars) and when I cook with dough I have to knead(gets all inside my ring).

Okay, a few times to take your rings off to preserve the life of both diamonds and PRONGS. many people forget that you have to take care of the prongs. while water doesnt damage high quality diamonds it is not the best idea to keep your diamonds, prong or ring in general in water for extended periods of time. Take it off in the shower, while doing dishes and when you go to sleep. You should also take your ring off when you go to sleep to let your skin under the ring breathe (for those of you who have a solid band) when i got a new band it was completely solid unlike my engagement ring because the band had no stones in it anyway, it left a blister-like thing under my ring because soap and whatnot can get traped under there and irritate the skin. when i started taking it off at night, i noticed a huge difference.

It’s not unsafe – it’s just not good to wear the ring in the shower because the diamonds get coated with soap and do not appear as shiny. This can easily be fixed with regular cleanings, but really the easier thing to do is to just take it off before you get in the shower or wash your hands. I used to wear my ring in the shower all the time, but it didn’t take long to lose its shine. And I only get it cleaned twice a year. So it looked dirty most of the time. Now I take my ring off when I am in the shower or washing dishes, etc.

It won’t HURT the ring or you … the ring will just appear dirty from the soap build up.

Diamond is one of the hardest substances in the world, its not going to be damaged by a bit of soapy water.
It might get dull but that will be from the scum build-up and can be cleaned off with a toothbrush and water.
I always wear rubber gloves when cleaning the house and dishes and such so that would protect the ring as well as my hands.

I only take mine off to clean or if I’m doing something where it will hurt my hands. Raking leaves, biking, etc.

Yes, if you have real diamonds and gold.
I only take my rings off if I’m mixing dough by hand, or mixing up meat for burgers, for example.
