Where are you from? From outer space? South Africa is a fully modern and well developed country. The whites have been there for generations. So where do you think one would wear their ring, on the toes? Can`t believe you are asking this question.

Left hand middle finger in the house
Right hand any finger when going out.

On the left hand , but also remember that SA has so many different cultures that there also other symbols of marriage, eg Hindu Indians , the lady uses a red dot on her fore head , toe rings are also used to symbolise marrige and also a necklass with black and gold beads are worn by married woman.

We wear it on our left hands ring finger. The 3rd finger excluding the thumb which technically does not count as a finger. The woman usually wears a (big, if the husband can afford it) diamond ring = engagement ring and then a 2nd ring which is the wedding ring. Sometimes these 2 rings are combined. The man usually wears a gold ring also on his ring finger of his left hand but sometimes some men although they are married do not wear a ring…..do not know why, think they want to fool around. I make sure that my husband wears his ring…….Well I really didn’t know that about the Dutch. I studied law and the tradition of the ring actually comes from the old Romans, they started wearing wedding rings on the ring finger of their left hand and believed that that finger is directly connected to the heart…. Our legal system here is based on the Roman dutch Law.
