Persoanlly I think 18kt yellow gold looks best…. No rings of any kind should be worn in a shop or around machinery. I’ve seen more than one guy with a really messed up finger who got his ring caught.
My cousin is a mechanic. He solved the whole thing by not wearing his wedding band at work. He keeps it in his wife’s jewelry box and wears it only when he is not at work.
Tungsten is what I have, but if you’re working with machinery then you’re better off not wearing a ring at all because It’s a very easy way to lose your finger! But yeah, for every day wear Tungsten steel is the way to go!
I would simply advise him not to wear his ring at work if it’s a concern. And definitely plan on have a plain band with no details if he IS going to wear it at work since the dirt and grease will definitely be shown in the tiny cracks. Simple is really nice, anyway.
My FH will have a plain white gold band. He’s not the bling bling type.
My husband picked out a tungsten one and loves it. He works for a beer distributor and is constantly hitting it on kegs and bottles- not even a scratch on the thing! Actually on Friday someone stopped him to compliment him on it which surprised me. Possible down sides: it probably will be darker than your ring (if you are particular about them matching), if you were planning on getting it engraved you wont be able to (or at least Jared Galleria told me they cant). It is a rumor that they can’t be cut off in the event of an emergency. That was one of my husbands biggest concerns with getting one so we checked it out.
All in all we are very happy with the ring- it looks great and is definitely hardy!
gold will scratch and will wear over time because its soft. I bought my boyfriend a tungsten engagement ring. It scratches but is very durable and looks nice. They ca remove the scratches however. Titanium won’t scratch but won’t look as nice.
My husband and I got tungsten wedding bands from http://www.larsonjewelers.com/ and we simply love them. He’s not in the automotive field, he’s a teacher actually, but he uses his hands a lot. I know how metals can scratch and dent because my engagement ring is white gold, but his tungsten ring has held up perfectly.
He assures me that in a case of an emergency, tungsten carbide rings can be removed quickly. They’re simply cracked off with a pair of vice grips.
