Where to go on a budget honeymoon in the 48 states?
Where are some great places to go on a honeymoon that won’t break the bank, and don’t require us to get on a plane? It will be in August, so we want to stay in the northern half of the country where it’s not 100 degrees! Thanks for any ideas you have!
The Pocono mountains in Pennsylvania are nice for honeymoons, and rooms are relatively inexpensive. My friends went their for their HM.
Portland OR
Half Moon Bay CA
you can take a train they have really sweet sunset cruises for cheap
Martha’s Vineyard is a great "island getaway" spot. It’s absolutely beautiful and the weather is excellent in August. You will feel "away" because it’s an island and it has amazing scenery and charming towns to explore.
We go there every summer and always feel relaxed and still find great new things to do.
We have personal photos and tips on the site in the source below
You can definitely find a honeymoon destination in the domestic US. Actually my parents had their honeymoon in the Poconos in PA. Not your most glamorous or perfect honeymoon hot spot but hey, it works. Here are some other spots:
Northern California is a great destination for honeymoons. San Francisco has rolling hills and an epic view of the Pacific. The city also features landmarks like the famous cable cars, Golden Gate Bridge, Knob Hill, Coit Tower, Pan-Pacific Park, Alcatraz Island, Lombard Street (the "crookedest street in the world"), Chinatown, and Fisherman’s Wharf. Stay at Union Square’s Hotel Monaco (tel. 800/214-4220) too..its so glamorous and lovely. You’re also just a 90 minute drive from the vineyards and wineries of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. If you aren’t interested in San Francisco, plan to spend your entire honeymoon in the wine country.
Another popular Northern California destination is Lake Tahoe — a great vacation spot, winter or summer. There are forests, mountains, snow skiing and summer boating on the lake. Also, Tahoe’s location on the California/Nevada border means that you can even enjoy gambling and Vegas-style entertainment at Stateline. Some of the best backpacking in the world is found within the Desolation Wilderness. Be sure to dine one evening at Tahoe City’s extraordinary Wolfdale’s restaurant.
A lot of great honeymoon destinations are in the south like Florida, Southern California or even Tennessee so maybe you can reconsider. Or if you can go outside of the 48 states, try Alaska for a brisk but awesome honeymoon.
